Capitals say Alex Ovechkin 'week-to-week' with lower leg injury

The Capitals have provided an update on Alex Ovechkin, albeit a vague one, with this statement put out around 12:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday:

INJURY UPDATE: Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin sustained an injury to his lower leg during last night's game in Utah, and is listed as week to week. Ovechkin will have further evaluation with team physicians in DC on Wednesday.

Ovechkin was injured in the third period of Monday night's game in Utah after colliding with Jack McBain, and left the game putting minimal weight on his left leg. He had scored two goals in the game to give him 15 on the year – making him the first player age 39 or older to be the first in the NHL to 15 goals, per NHL PR – and 868 on the season, 26 from tying and 27 from passing Wayne Gretzky.

The Capitals are returning home from their west coast trip today, and head coach Spencer Carbery will hopefully have more info when he makes his weekly appearance on the Sports Junkies on Wednesday.
