"Love for 3."
The Buffalo Sabres walked into Capital One Arena Tuesday night in Washington wearing t-shirts with that message in support of Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety who went into cardiac arrest during their game Monday night in Cincinnati.
Hamlin remains in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center as of Tuesday. Hamlin's uncle, Dorrian Glenn, told several media outlets his nephew remained sedated and had to be resuscitated twice.
“His heart had went out so they had to resuscitate him twice," Glenn told CNN on Tuesday. "They resuscitated him on the field before they brought him to the hospital and then they resuscitated him a second time when they got him to the hospital."
Glenn added: "We are just taking it day by day. It seems like he’s trending upwards in a positive way."
Hamlin collapsed on the field after tackling Bengals receiver Tee Higgins nine minutes into the first quarter of Monday's game.
Before the game in Washington, Sabres fans placed signs with the same "Love for 3" message behind the Buffalo bench.
Prior to the game, the Washington Capitals held a moment of silence to honor Hamlin and support his recovery.
The Caps also tweeted the link to a GoFundMe to support Hamlin's The Chasing M's Foundation Community Toy Drive.
The Washington Commanders made a public contribution of $5,000 to the cause, which at press time had raised over $5.5 million. Surpassing the initial goal of $2,500.
