Capitals sign Charlie Lindgren to extension to lock up goalie tandem

The Capitals have locked up their goaltending duo for years to come.

The team announced Monday morning that it has come to terms with Charlie Lindgren on a three-year, $9 million contract extension, keeping the 31-year-old in Washington at $3 million per year.

“Since joining our organization in 2022, Charlie has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and reliability in net with his athleticism and drive," Capitals GM Chris Patrick said in a press release. "With both goalies under contract for the next three seasons, we expect this tandem to provide our club stability at a crucial position and push one another to compete and play at a high level.”

Earlier this year, the Caps signed Logan Thompson to a six-year contract for $35.1 million, meaning first-place Washington has its goaltender tandem secured for the near future.

Lindgren has a record of 13-10-3 with a 2.70 goals-against average, an .898 save percentage and one shutout in 27 games with the Capitals during the 2024-25 campaign. Across three seasons in DC, he has seven shutouts and a .904 save percentage while allowing 2.78 goals per game. He led the league with six shutouts last season.
