Hard Knocks premiere shows Jerry Jones likes to salt up his morning McGriddle

Tuesday’s season premiere of Hard Knocks has already fueled an important discussion on body-shaming (it would appear Fox Sports personality Skip Bayless prefers his coaches with washboard abs), but it also gave us a window into the morning routine of longtime Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

The 78-year-old may own such luxuries as a 300-foot yacht and a 14,000-square foot villa in his native Dallas, but that doesn’t mean Jones, who boasts a net worth of over $8 billion, can’t still enjoy fast food like the rest of us. Apparently, Jones—like so many Americans—begins his day with a morning McGriddle from McDonald’s.

That’s a heady play, but here’s where things go off the rails. Unlike the majority of people who wolf down their Mickey D’s on the drive to work, Jones, perhaps inspired by the eating habits of George Constanza (famous for his oddly dignified approach to eating Snickers bars), prefers his on a porcelain plate. Even crazier is that Jones, as seen in this viral clip from Hard Knocks, salts his McGriddle and not just a little—that puppy is absolutely drenched. Which begs an important follow-up question—does Jones actually like McGriddles (already more than double the calories of a strawberry Pop Tart) or is he just a really big fan of salt?

Twitter predictably weighed in on Jones’ bizarre breakfast, marveling at the billionaire’s dangerous salt consumption.

With new episodes dropping each Tuesday on HBO and its accompanying streaming service HBOMax, viewers can look forward to plenty more weirdness from the eccentric Cowboys owner in the coming weeks.
