Twitter was abuzz over the unusually fast 40 times recorded at Thursday’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis with Baylor receiver Tyquan Thorndon blazing a ridiculous 4.28 (NFL Network initially clocked him at 4.21, which would have been a Combine record). That came hours after the internet lost its mind over first-round hopeful Kenny Picket’s hand size, measuring a disappointing 8.5 inches.

Friday the focus shifted to goliath right tackle Daniel Faalele, an all-conference performer at Minnesota this past season. The Melbourne, Australia native turned heads with a stunning weight of 384 pounds, making him among the heaviest draft prospects in recent memory. In fact, only a handful of NFL players have ever eclipsed a playing weight of 380 pounds, with current Patriots lineman Trent Brown among that fraternity.

The 22-year-old has actually shed more than 40 pounds since arriving on campus in 2018, when he weighed a whopping 426 pounds. If possible, Faalele, who logged 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press Friday morning, would like to get down to 375 by the time training camp opens this summer. Social media predictably marveled at Faalele’s monstrous size, comparing him to fellow behemoths Andre the Giant and Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane from Game of Thrones.

ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper rates Faalele as the No. 6 tackle in this year’s class while Lance Zierlein of NFL.com feels he can eventually develop into an “average starter.”
