With the news coming out that ESPN’s Bomani Jones is exiting once his contract expires next year, no one thought we would hear where he would land next for at least a few more months.

But Jones and HBO have wasted no time announcing the launch of his new late-night weekly series.

Jones will star in his new show called “Game Theory with Bomani Jones,” which will cover topics and issues across the world of sports.

Although his contract doesn’t end until the beginning of next year, Jones is still expected to contribute to the Worldwide Leader, specifically continuing to work on his podcast, “The Right Time,” and he will also make appearances on ESPN's Around the Horn and a new show, Debatable.

HBO’s executive vice president of programming Nina Rosenstien gives a further insight into why they decided to give Jones his own show and what you can expect too see.

“Bomani is one of the most unique journalists working today,” Rosenstein said in a statement. "He’s someone who gets that sports stories are often about race, politics, economics and gender, and sees a wider view that goes beyond what happens on the field. We are thrilled to be able to work with him and know that ‘Game Theory’ will deliver provocative, insightful and funny stories that you don’t hear too often in popular media.”

This isn’t the first time we are seeing Jones on HBO. He has made appearances on as a contributor on Bob Costas show, “Back on the Record’ and has appeared in many HBO Sports documentaries.

Jones has been on ESPN for over a decade and has his shot for his own show with Pablo Torre called “High Noon,” which was eventually canceled due to low ratings. Jones seems very happy about his new role.

“This is, literally, my professional dream, to have a show like this one on HBO,” Jones said in a statement. “We have a chance to do something that hasn’t been done before, and I can’t wait to share our work with the world.”
