Georgetown is expected to hire Providence head coach Ed Cooley as its next men's basketball head coach, multiple outlets are reporting.
Both sides had been in deep discussions on Monday, ESPN's Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello reported, while Scott Abraham of ABC7 News added that Cooley could be announced as the Hoyas' coach as soon as Monday.
Now, it appears it's a done deal, as Cooley has formally resigned from the Friars program with ESPN reporting that he's accepted Georgetown's offer.
Per John Fanta of Fox Sports, Georgetown expects to offer Cooley a salary in the neighborhood of $6 million per year.
Cooley would be replacing Patrick Ewing, who was fired in early March after six seasons as Georgetown's head coach, a stretch which included just one winning season and a 13-50 overall record during the past two seasons. Ewing also oversaw a 29-game conference losing streak in the Big East.
Cooley posted a 242-153 (.613) overall record in 12 seasons with the Providence Friars, which included seven NCAA Tournament appearances.
