JUNKIES: Yahoo's Dan Wetzel weighs in on Ja Morant's latest suspension

Ja Morant got an eight-game suspension earlier this season for brandishing a weapon on an Instagram Live video…and less than two months later, he’s once again suspended, this time by the Grizzlies, after doing it again.

Yahoo! Sports columnist Dan Wetzel joined the Junkies on Tuesday to discuss the situation, and what he thinks will come of it…and the takeaway is that the bigger problem is not learning from the first mistake.

“Ja didn’t break any laws or do anything on court, but the idea that something so easily avoidable and completely self-inflicted, you’d do the same thing so soon after a significant suspension, that will play into whatever they decide when they suspend him,” Wetzel said. “It’s like, we just went over this and you did it again. I do expect it to be pretty significant, and I’m not sure what Ja Morant was thinking.”

Wizards fans surely sadly remember Gilbert Arenas getting suspended for the 2010 half of the 2009-10 season after his incident with Javaris Crittenton in the Wizards’ locker room, which was of a higher scope but still involved weapons.

Wetzel doesn’t quite think it will be the 50 games Arenas got, pegging the NBA’s eventual expected discipline for Morant at “less than half a season,” but the point he made is that “it’s easy to not be seen brandishing a weapon in an Instagram Live – the idea he’d do it again is so ridiculous and idiotic, that’s really the bigger worry, but it’s clear the NBA wants no part of this.”

Listen to it all above, as well as Wetzel’s thoughts on the Matt Araiza case and the possibility of the Wizards moving up in the NBA Draft Lottery and getting Victor Wembanyama.
