Did Kevin Sheehan take it easy on Kyle Shanahan for his Super Bowl blunders?

Kevin Sheehan began Tuesday's edition of the Kevin Sheehan Show with an email from Seth in Potomac: “You really didn't go hard enough with deserved criticism of your half-brother Kyle's Super Bowl decisions. I think he's proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's a great offensive coordinator, but as a head coach maybe not secure enough or cut out to be the big picture thinker you have to be.

"I remember the day you had them on your show and questioned him on an in-game decision that you were right on, but he was too stubborn to admit," Seth's email continued. "He doesn’t have enough humility to admit when he’s wrong and that’s why he’ll always come up short. You should have gone harder on him."

While Sheehan has agreed with Seth's takes in his emails in the past, he said "this one is just off for the most part."

“I do remember the only time I ever had Kyle on the show with me, it was when he was the offensive coordinator working for his father here, I had asked for Kyle on multiple occasions. I don't remember specifically the details of what I asked him about but I do remember that there was a bit of an awkward and not necessarily confrontational moment... but I know that he wasn't happy about it," Sheehan said. "Kyle never accepted another invitation to come on."

He went on to say: "From my standpoint, there was always a difference between Mike's and Kyle's personalities when they were here anyway."

Sheehan said that the elder Shanahan would never blow off any layperson's suggestion or make that person feel lesser for their opinion. "He's also got a level of humility that maybe Kyle doesn't have," Sheehan added. "I don't know because I don't know Kyle at all."

But, he then digresses that the younger Shanahan's overwhelming record so far into his head coaching career – two Super Bowl trips and four NFC title game appearances in his first six years – isn't going to win "is one of the silliest takes I've ever heard."

There is a lot of conversation on Shanahan's third Super Bowl defeat – the first coming as an offensive coordinator in Atlanta under current Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn – that is resulting in some heat for the brilliant offensive mind and brilliant game planner.

"He may have a flaw or two, but he doesn't have a lot of them," Sheehan said, adding that there are coaches and 'offensive genius' types who fit Seth's bill, but Kyle Shanahan is not one of them. "Kyle's been one of the best head coaches in the league for several years running."
