Chris Knoche on Kevin Willard leaving Maryland: 'He snuck away like a thief in the night'

Kevin Willard was officially named Villanova’s next head basketball coach on Sunday, ending a saga that came to the public eye a little less than two weeks ago but had apparently been brewing for much longer.

Many things have been said about Willard and the way he went about things – including our JP Finlay calling him a ‘weasel’ – but when Terps color analyst Chris Knoche joined Doc Walker on Sunday morning to discuss the move, he had another analogy for Willard.

But, as much of a mess as it looks like now with no AD and a head coaching search underway, Knoche still thinks ‘100 percent’ this is an attractive job.

“It’s a great job in a great conference, you're compensated handsomely, you have resources that a lot of programs dream about, and a brand-new practice facility that'll open this summer. It's a great, great job,” Knoche said. “There’s a part of me that wishes they would just elevate one of Willard’s assistants, so you may have a chance of keeping the two guards that you really want to keep as sort of the focal point of next year's team, but there will not be a shortage of candidates. There are some really qualified guys they will bring in as candidates, I just hope they do it quickly.
