The No. 2 overall pick already paying off for the Nationals?

Dylan Crews made his professional debut on Thursday morning, leading off and playing center field for the FCL Nationals in the rookie-level Florida Complex League – and he promptly went 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, and three runs scored in five innings played.

Crews made one defensive putout and fielded two other balls that were hits to center, but otherwise was rather untested defensively, and was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the top of the sixth.

The FCL Nationals went on to lose to the FCL Cardinals, 8-4.

Crews was selected with a huge prospect pedigree, as a two-time SEC Player of the Year at LSU, and agreed to a $9 million signing bonus – a tick above his $8,998,500 slot value at No. 2 – in late July. He starts in the FCL, but some pundits believe that he could be in the Majors by sometime next season, if not in 2025.
