The Nationals gave their fans a grand welcome back to Nats Park with a dramatic finish in their long-anticipated Opening Day on Tuesday.
After Andrew Stevenson's RBI single tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Juan Soto, a potential MVP candidate in 2021, knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth — scoring Victor Robles from second — to walk off the Braves with a 6-5 Nats victory.
It was the first career walk-off hit of Soto's four-year MLB career (his game-winning single against the Brewers in the 2019 Wild Card Game was in the eighth inning).
And what a way to celebrate the return of 4,801 Nationals fans, in Washington's first game in front of its home fans since the 2019 World Series.
What a thrill to hear real-life fans celebrate a Nationals victory in person again in the nation's capital. Listen to Charlie Slowes on the game-winning call.
