The Nationals have finally traded MacKenzie Gore, sending him to Texas for a package of five of the Rangers’ Top 18 prospects per MLB.com.

According to multiple reports, the return is, in alphabetical order: OF Yeremy Cabrera, SS Gavin Fien, IF Devin Fitz-Gerald, 1B/OF Abimelec Ortiz, and RHP Alejandro Rosario. Only Ortiz was on Texas’ 40-man roster, so no other transactions are needed for the roster.

Gore, 26, was acquired as part of the package that sent Juan Soto to San Diego in 2022, and he was 22-37 with a 4.15 ERA and 517 strikeouts in 462 1/3 innings over 89 starts. He had been the subject of trade rumors since before this year’s trade deadline, and now, he heads to Texas with two years of team control and as the first piece of the Mike Rizzo post-World Series rebuild to depart.

Cabrera, 20, was an international free agent signing in 2022 and Texas’ No. 16. Prospect per MLB.com. He played a full year stateside for the first time last season, slashing .256/.364/.366 with 8 homers, 52 RBI, and 43 steals in 102 games with High-A Hickory.

He has played mostly center field, but also left field and one game at first base in the Rangers’ system.

Fien, 18, was the No. 12 overall pick of the 2025 Draft and the Rangers’ No. 2 prospect. He made his pro debut last summer at Hickory, slashing .220/.267/.341 with seven RBI in 10 games.

Fitz-Gerald, 20, was the Rangers’ fifth-round pick in 2024 and No. 12 prospect. His pro debut last summer was split between Hickory and the Rangers’ Arizona Complex League team, and he slashed .302/.428/.482 with six homers and 20 RBI in 41 games, where he played all three non-first base infield positions.

Ortiz, 23, has been in the Rangers’ system since 2021 and was the organization’s No. 18 prospect. He has played mostly first base but also a little right field, and in 2025, he slashed .257/.356/.479 with 25 homers, 89 RBI, and 85 runs scored in 130 games between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock.

He was added to the Rangers’ 40-man roster in November, so he will be on the Nats’ 40-man and has three minor-league options to use.

Rosario, 24, was the Rangers’ fifth-round pick in 2023 and the No. 6 prospect in the organization, and was a consensus Top 100 prospect in baseball prior to last season. He did not pitch in 2025 and will not pitch in 2026 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but in his lone pro season of 2024, he was 4-5 with a 2.24 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 88 1/3 innings over 18 games (17 starts) between Hickory and Class-A Down East.
