Multiple reporters have knocked down a report indicating that the Nationals had made Juan Soto an offer worth $425 million over 13 years.
MLB Insider Hector Gomez reported Thursday afternoon that "talks are intensifying" between the two sides with Washington upping its previous extension offer by $75 million, bringing their latest offer to $425 million.
Nationals beat reporters Jesse Dougherty and Britt Ghiroli have both come out to refute Gomez's reporting, with each of them describing the figures reported by Gomez as "inaccurate."
Furthermore, Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan adds that the numbers, words and years used in Gomez's report are "all wrong."
"Now I can go one step further and I'll tell you that having texted with someone about this, they said there's lots wrong in that report," Paulsen said on 106.7 The Fan. "Numbers, words, years — all wrong."
"Now you're getting into a game of telephone and I don't like shooting down someone else's reports," Paulsen added. "Look, this is a credible source who has broken a lot of news, specifically with players from the Dominican Republic. I think you're talking about someone who is plugged in, who does get information, in Hector Gomez, but I'm talking to one person here who says that they don't believe that the information that he's got is correct on this."
Soto, who is currently slated to hit free agency following the 2024 season, was offered a 13-year, $350 million contract extension last fall, figures which Soto himself confirmed.
