The Nationals’ Top 3 prospects are headed to the Futures Game…sort of.
Rosters were announced for the 2024 All-Star Futures Game on July 13 in Arlington, Texas, and the Nationals had three selections to the event: outfielders James Wood and Dylan Crews were selected for the game itself, while infielder Brady House will take part in the inaugural Skills Showcase.
Wood, the No. 1 prospect in the organization and No. 2 overall in MLB by MLB.com, made his MLB debut Monday, and will be replaced on the roster – but he was a worthy selection after slashing .363/.453/.595 with 10 homers, 37 RBI, and 10 steals in 52 games at Triple-A Rochester.
Crews, the Nats’ No. 2 prospect and fourth overall in baseball, was recently promoted to Rochester after slashing .274/.343/.446 with five homers, 38 RBI, and 16 steals in 52 games at Double-A Harrisburg. He is at .259/.286/.426 in 12 Triple-A games so far, and will become the No. 1 prospect in the organization (and move up a spot in the MLB rankings) if and when Wood exhausts his rookie eligibility this year.
House, No. 3 Nationals/No. 45 MLB, is slashing .234/.309/.429 with 13 homers, 34 RBI, and five steals in 71 games at Harrisburg. He will partake in the first-ever Skills Showcase, one of eight chosen to participate in a post-game competition that will have three rounds of hitting challenges for each participant to showcase themselves.
