It appears Joe Judge is returning to New England in a new role.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Patriots are working on a deal to bring Judge back as an offensive assistant. It is expected to get done in the coming days.

Judge was fired by the Giants after two seasons last month. Prior to that Judge had been with the Patriots since 2012. He worked his way up from special teams assistant to special teams coordinator and then added wide receivers coach to his resume in 2019.

With Josh McDaniels now in Las Vegas, Judge will give some experience to that side of the ball. It's unlikely he will be the new offensive coordinator since he has no play-calling experience.

Bill O'Brien remains the odds-on favorite for that job.
