The quarterback prospects in the NFL Draft might be sitting in the green room for a little longer than expected Thursday night.
Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett are the top two players at the position, but opinions on their NFL futures vary widely, leading to a variety of different predictions where they will land – with some guessing as high as No. 6 and others saying there won’t be a quarterback selected on Day 1.

Barring an enormous surprise, the earliest a quarterback would be selected is by the Carolina Panthers at No. 6. But in chatting with folks around the draft in Las Vegas, Rich Eisen said on his show that’s sounding unlikely.
“Word right now is that’s not going to happen,” Eisen said (40:35 mark in player above) about the Panthers taking a quarterback. "I’m hearing that’s not in the cards and they’re going to go either try to trade down with somebody who might really adore a certain player that allows them to net more picks because after they choose six overall the next time we see them is at the end of the fourth round in compensatory picks."
The problem for the Panthers is that apparently no one wants to trade up. It could be huge for the Panthers if they manage to trade back, because they might be able to get a Day 2 pick that would allow them to get a quarterback they have their eye on.
This is arguably the most uncertain anyone has ever been about how the top of the draft will shake out. And unless there’s a stunner along the way, it sounds like we might not see any quarterback movement in the top 10.
