Jon Rothstein: 'It's pretty clear' Villanova is waiting on Kevin Willard's decision to come or stay at Maryland

We’ve now gotten to the point where Kevin Willard is now deflecting any more questions about Maryland’s athletics department situation or anything involving his future, far cries from his rant last week about the state of the program and even his declaration to Kevin Sheehan this week that he is staying in College Park 'for now.’

Key words being those last two, because when CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein joined the Junkies Thursday, ahead of Maryland’s Sweet 16 tipoff with Florida, he thought it was ‘pretty clear’ that Villanova is waiting on Willard – whether it’s to make up his mind about coming before they hire someone else, or waiting for the Terps to be eliminated so he can become their next hear coach.

And if you’re wondering why a program as storied as Villanova would be so invested in a coach who is not only doing this now at his current stop, but also hasn’t gotten any team he’s coached in 21 years as far in the tournament as the one he’s with…well, Rothstein’s got an idea there, too.
