A pivotal year in the history of basketball and music is getting a fresh look through a retrospective.
A forthcoming NBA TV special will look back at the star-studded 1996 draft class, with the show set to a decidedly 90s soundtrack.
The doc, titled 'Ready or Not: The '96 NBA Draft,' takes its name from the classic Fugees song, and examines "the behind-the-scenes stories and celebrated careers" of several players who enjoyed Hall of Fame or All-Star careers and, in some cases, reshaped the course of league history.
Among the stars selected in 1996 were future Hall of Famers Allen Iverson -- selected first overall -- as well as Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, and Steve Nash. Other notables include Stephon Marbury, Antoine Walker, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Jermaine O'Neal, Peja Stojakovic, Marcus Camby, Derek Fisher, and others.
The show delves into Iverson's anticipated arrival in the professional ranks after his standout career at Georgetown, as well as a flurry of draft-day transactions that saw several top picks get traded, including Bryant, among other topics.
The year 1996 was a seminal one in hip-hop, as well, with a series of landmark albums being released. Last year, LeBron James wore a t-shirt paying homage to five memorable LPs from '96.
Elsewhere in the doc, "rare footage" gives fans a look at pre-draft workouts attended by some of the game's top executives and coaches of the day, as well as "candid moments" from the draft-day green room, according to a Warner press release.
The documentary is the latest in NBA TV's Basketball Stories series, launched last year. It was set to air on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
