The truth of the matter is, nothing can come close to the NFL. And the league's grandest event of all – the Super Bowl – is the last remaining singular thing in America right now. It is the sun, the moon, the Alpha and the Omega of not just the nation's sports universe, but the nation's cultural universe.
On 'What Do Ya Got,' Kevin Sheehan looks into the mega numbers of the Super Bowl LVIII broadcast with Taylor Swift that featured Patrick Mahomes defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime 25-22 to give the Kansas City Chiefs back-to-back titles.
CBS says the game was the most-watched telecast in history, averaging 123.4 million viewers across all platforms. And 202.4 million viewers watched all-or-part of Super Bowl LVIII across networks, a 10 percent increase over last year's game and a new all-time high.
"I mean, that is essentially... [there's] 331.9 million people in America as of 2021. So you're talking about 60 percent of the country? 60 percent of the country?!?" Sheehan said. "That's insane!"
Of course, a lot of that credit goes to the greatness of Patrick Mahomes, but of course, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's off-the-field activities certainly had a lot to do with the record-breaking numbers.
