A feud between Stephen A. Smith and Stephon Marbury appears to be growing.
The two have continued to trade barbs about one another this week following Smith’s rant about Kyrie Irving last week on ESPN’s “First Take.”
Smith called out Irving for “not wanting to show up to work” and tweeted the clip with the caption, “we are witnessing one of the most delusional athletes in American history.”
Marbury reacted to the tweet saying, “we are witnessing one of the biggest uncle Tom’s on the planet in @stephenasmith”
Smith responded on Monday, adding context that Marbury has had an issue with him since 2009 because, “we thought he was a bit bizarre when he was eating Vaseline. Literally on video. Like it was a bunch of cheeseburgers.”
Marbury chimed on via Twitter on Tuesday with several tweets about Smith, calling out the sports personality for being fed lies from Larry Brown that he spread to build his reputation, adding, “You break down black athletes for gain and fame.”
Marbury, who last played in the NBA in 2009, has long been a supporter of Irving, backing him as the Brooklyn Nets star refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine and even likened him to Muhammad Ali on an Instagram Live comment.
Smith, meanwhile, has been a vocal critic of Irving’s all season, as well as Nets teammate Ben Simmons — the latter of whom elicited critique from Jamie Foxx, who said Smith is silent when it comes to criticizing players such as Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.
“I’m only supposed to be complimentary?” Smith said in response to Foxx last week, via the NY Post. “I’m calling out a Kyrie and a Ben Simmons because of their impact and effect on the Black athletes. When you got to the collective bargaining table, and [the owners] use them as an example to try to minimize their contribution to players, that’s about those players. That’s about the Black athlete.”
