Terrell Owens is still catching touchdown passes.
The Hall of Fame wide receiver debuted in the Fan Controlled Football league on Saturday night — a 7-on-7 indoor professional league — and hauled in one catch, a 12-yard touchdown on the final play of the game for the Zappers, who lost 20-12 to the Shoulda Been Stars.
The 48-year-old was targeted five times in the game but said he was just knocking off some rust.
“I felt alright,” he said after the game. “I mean, obviously, a little rusty, just got to get a little timing with some of the quarterbacks. But other than that, it’s football, you know what I mean? Obviously, I think we wanted to get the win, but we came up short on that end. Hey, we got seven more games. So, always a lot of room for improvement.”
If the Fan Controlled Football league sounds familiar, it is also the league that Johnny Manziel plays in and is actually supposed to be Owens’ quarterback, but needs more preparation after arriving late for camp.
Owens, who last played in the NFL in 2010, has said over the years how he could still play in the NFL. Last summer, he explained how he technically never retired and that he had an “interesting situation” with an NFL owner, insinuating a potential return.
It seems unlikely for someone like Owens to return to the NFL, but perhaps he is hoping to get at least a tryout by showing what he can do in the Fan Controlled Football league.
