Through his first three games as a Carolina Panther, Sam Darnold has looked more like the quarterback the New York Jets thought they were getting when they drafted him with the third overall pick in. 2018.

Darnold has thrown for 888 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while also rushing for three touchdowns as the Panthers enter Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys at 3-0.

The small sample size has resulted in some strong takes, perhaps the boldest was on Sunday’s NFL on Fox pregame show when Terry Bradshaw said he thinks the Panthers “have hit on the best quarterback in franchise history.”

That take was met with some resistance, however.

While Darnold certainly has a high ceiling, he has played just three games (against the Jets, Saints and Texans, for what it’s worth) and becoming the best quarterback in Panthers history would mean surpassing the likes of Cam Newton, who won an MVP and took the team to a Super Bowl (albeit, lost to the Broncos) and had three Pro Bowl seasons in nine years with the team.
