This is almost too weird.
Tom Brady was born in 1977 in San Mateo, California, so we can safely assume that six-year-old Tom Brady was also in San Mateo in 1983, doing whatever a six-year-old future Hall of Famer does in his spare time. But Tom Brady was also at a hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana for surgery on his elbow in 1983, except it wasn't Tom Brady at all. Instead, it was Terry Bradshaw, entering the final season of his illustrious career, and "Thomas Brady" was the completely random alias that he used.
What type of sorcery is this? I went looking for an original article from 1983 about this bizarre occurrence, and sure enough, there it was in the March 23, 1983 edition of The New York Times in Section B on Page 8. Thanks to Bradshaw's doctor, it was revealed that Bradshaw had checked in under that false name for a condition that was likened to "tennis elbow," which was actually accurate. The doctor noted that Bradshaw was doing well and that he would likely be able to start throwing again once June came around, though he couldn't predict that the upcoming 1983 season was Bradshaw's last.
Oh, and the doctor's name? Bill Bundrick. As in, the exact name I'd expect Bill Belichick to come up with if he was panicked to come up with an alias for some reason. According to healthgrades.com, Bundrick is an orthopedic surgeon in Louisiana with over 57 years of experience in the medical field. This is a hole-less story. But I still just can't really believe it.
Why "Thomas Brady," and does Bradshaw even remember doing this? I'm sure he'll be asked about it soon and we can find out more details, but no matter what, my mind is just blown from this coincidence.
