Bizarre scene from the Women’s NCAA Tourney this weekend: LSU coach Kim Mulkey responded to a rumored pending WaPo article with a minutes-long rant threatening to sue the Post over ‘unethical journalism’ in a story about her.
The Junks played some of the audio on Monday, and EB simply wondered what the agenda would even be, with Bish and Valdez explaining what Kent Babb of the Post has apparently tried to do, with Mulkey claiming he tried to contact her last week (during her busiest time of year) while also saying he’s been trying to reach her for two years.
“She refused to talk to him because she did not like the story that he or maybe the paper did on Brian Kelly, when he was hired at LSU,” Valdez said. “She denied access or denied an interview after the Brian Kelly piece.”
“Seems crazy, and I don't wanna defend this woman that I don't know anything about or The Post, but there's always an agenda,” EB said.
Seems like the crux of the issue was that Kelly story juxtaposing his huge contract with the poverty level in Baton Rouge, but as Bish noted, ‘you could say that about a ton of college coaches.’
“She seems like a stern woman,” EB said, with Bish calling Mulkey ‘the female Bobby Knight, kind of hard, abrasive, personality.’
Take a listen to the whole segment above, which has a lot of buzz around Mulkey, Caitlin Clark, Dawn Staley and the entire Women’s Tournament!
