Thom Brennaman will put the headset on again, just not yet for a major league game.

The disgraced broadcaster was hired to be the play-by-play man for the Roberto Clemente League in Puerto Rico, according to MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal, which begins on Tuesday night.

It will mark the return to the booth for the longtime Fox Sports play-by-play announcer, who stopped calling Reds and NFL games for Fox after he was caught uttering a homophobic slur during a Cincinnati Reds-Kansas City Royals broadcast in August.

The 57-year-old infamously issued an apology during the game in which he interrupted his statement to do play-by-play of a Nick Castellanos home run and acknowledged he was unsure if he would ever be “putting on this headset again.”

Fox replaced Brennaman the next day and officially resigned from his role with the Reds in September.

Brennaman has since issued further apologies and has met with LGBTQ broadcasters and activists, according to Awful Announcing, as he tries to repair his image.

The Roberto Clemente League, also known as the Puerto Rican Winter League, has streaming for U.S. audiences, which is likely where Brennaman will be calling the games.

It is likely still a long road back to the majors for Brennaman but it remains to be seen if this is the beginning of a comeback after a, rather brief, four-month hiatus from an ugly incident.
