Monumental Sports and Entertainment is staying in DC, the city pledging $515 million to refurbish Capital One Arena and ‘provide other opportunities,’ and Potomac Yard’s arena dream is dead – and the woman responsible for the last part couldn’t resist not one, but two final jabs about it Wednesday.

Virginia State Senator L. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth), the head of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee who basically killed funding bill language in the legislature and has come to prominence as much for her memes mocking the arena project as her politics, got her final words on Twitter/X Wednesday afternoon as the DC-MSE deal news was unfolding.

First, Sen. Lucas, after reposting multiple Tweets lauding her role in this situation, posted a picture of a cartoon woman smacking a basketball with a big “REJECTED” stamp over it, and this as the body:

“As Monumental announces today they are staying in Washington DC we are celebrating in Virginia that we avoided the Monumental Disaster! Thank you to everyone who stood with us in this fight!”

That was not enough for the octogenarian meme queen, however, as not long after, she re-posted a previous meme of her face posing with a gravestone reading “Youngkin and Leonsis’ $5 billion arena,’ this time with the caption “F A F O” running vertically in the Tweet.

Those hip to the lingo know what that means, although we’ll reveal to those who don’t the last three mean “Around & Find Out,” which, apparently, the Governor and the former AOL executive did.

Probably not going to get Ms. Lucas 1000 free hours of American Online, or much in the way of toll relief for her constituents in Hampton Roads, but hey, we’ll always have Virginia remaining the largest U.S. state by population to not house a major professional sports team.
