We’ll take Alex Trebek tribute cleats for $100, please.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen is paying special tribute to the late “Jeopardy!” game show host on Monday night against the Chicago Bears with custom-made Alex Trebek cleats.
The designer of the cleats, Dan “Mache” Gamache shared an image of them on Twitter Monday night, a few hours before kickoff, which showed Trebek on one side of the shoe with a halo hanging over his head and the dates 1940-2020, with the other side a blue Jeopardy! box that reads, “We will miss you, Alex -$19,000”
The reason for choosing $19,000 may stem from Thielen’s jersey number, which is 19.
“I feel like no matter where you were from I feel like Jeoaprdy was a part of all of our lives in some way,” Gamache wrote on his Twitter.
Trebek lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last Sunday at the age of 80.
Many have taken the time to honor the game show host on social media, including several athletes – such as Aaron Rodgers (who appeared on the show) – sharing their thoughts and memories of Trebek.
His death clearly is still resonating throughout the nation and even within the sports community as Thielen is just the latest to pay homage to Trebek, but the first to do it with his cleats.
