Colt McCoy retires from NFL, will join NBC as Big Ten game analyst

Colt McCoy officially announced his retirement Monday, but he won’t be far from the field: he announced in his retirement video on social media that he is joining NBC as a Big Ten game analyst, beginning Sept. 7 with the renewal of the Colorado-Nebraska rivalry.

“Thank you football, excited for the next chapter,” McCoy wrote accompanying the video.

McCoy, 37, last played in 2022 with Arizona and was expected to be their 2023 starter, but he was released in camp while recovering from elbow surgery, and did not sign anywhere. That continued into this offseason and summer, until he made the announcement Wednesday.

Originally a third-round pick of the Browns in 2010 after being a two-time Heisman Trophy Finalist at Texas, McCoy played 13 seasons with the Browns, 49ers, Commanders, Giants, and Cardinals, spending the 2014-19 seasons in Washington and playing 12 games.

McCoy was 1-6 in seven starts in that time, but his best season was 2014, when he threw for 1,057 yards in five games (four starts) in relief of the injured RG3 and ineffective Kirk Cousins.

For his career, McCoy threw for 7.975 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions in 56 games.
