Commanders add Jesse Madden, grandson of John, as an offensive quality control assistant
The Commanders have added a legacy of NFL royalty to their coaching staff, hiring Jesse Madden as an offensive quality control coach.
Yes, that’s the grandson of John Madden, who joins the team following his graduation from the University of Michigan. Jesse was a walk-on for the Wolverines, originally as a QB before switching to DB, and appeared in one game back in 2021. However, he was twice named Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2023-2024) and Academic All-Big Ten (2022-2023), and was the Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year in 2022.
He did win a National Championship ring as a junior, and was in the same defensive backfield as current Commanders corner Mikey Sainiristil.
His legendary grandfather was 103-32-7 in 10 seasons as Raiders head coach, winning Super Bowl XI, and he later worked for all four major broadcast networks as the premier color commentator on NFL broadcasts.
The hiring of Madden was announced on the same day the Commanders officially announced the previously-reported hire of Brian Schneider as an assistant special teams coach.
