Commanders naming QB coach David Blough as next offensive coordinator

Less than a week after mutually parting ways with Kliff Kingsbury, the Commanders have their new offensive coordinator – and it’s an in-house promotion.

According to multiple reports, including one confirmed by our own Grant Paulsen, the Commanders are naming quarterbacks coach David Blough as their next offensive coordinator.

Blough, 30, is over a decade younger than the QB who took the final snap of the season for the Commanders, and barely five years older than the one who will have the keys to his offense in Week 1 of 2026 – but, the promotion is just another step in the fast rise of a man who himself was under center in an NFL game as recently as Week 18 of the 2022 NFL season.

Blough was hired by the Commanders in January 2024 as assistant quarterbacks coach, and served in that role until moving up this past December to the main gig when Tavita Pritchard left to take the head coaching gig at Stanford.

Now, three seasons after he finished his NFL career on the Lions’ practice squad, Blough will be leading the Commanders’ offense, tasked with keeping things rolling for Jayden Daniels in Year 3.

The move ends one coordinator search for Dan Quinn, and now, the focus will move to finding a replacement for Joe Whitt Jr., who was also officially dismissed earlier this week.
