Do Commanders need to draft a QB who fits Kliff Kingsbury's offense? Craig Hoffman breaks it down

News that isn't news: The Washington Commanders will – most likely – be drafting a quarterback with the No. 2 overall selection in a few weeks and nobody really knows which quarterback new general manager Adam Peters will be taking.

With Kliff Kingsbury as the new offensive coordinator – and Dan Quinn being a defense-minded head coach – there is a lot of tea-leaf reading about which quarterback is the best fit for his system. But is that the right question for us to be even asking?

ESPN's Mina Kimes had this to say about the matter: "I don't think the question is which quarterback fits with Kliff Kingsbury... I think the question you need to be asking is 'How is Kliff Kingsbury gonna adapt his offense to suit a rookie quarterback?' Because from what we saw in Arizona from 2019-2022, there were a lot of flaws.

"I'll just point to one thing: During that period, Kliff Kingsbury's offense ranked dead last in the NFL in use of motion. If you aren't using motion in today's NFL to give your quarterback information... to create leverage and spacing, I don't... I feel like you're lacking in assisting and, it's an oversimplification there are a lot of factors, in that, but I don't think that the Washington Commanders should be drafting thinking about who best suits what we've seen from Kliff in the past."

Former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky responded by saying the QB who best fits Kingsbury's system is USC's Caleb Williams, who is likely going to be the No. 1 overall pick to the Chicago Bears. And another, whom Washington is also not likely to take, is Oregon's Bo Nix.

Craig Hoffman called that a "pretty fascinating thought process" that injects a new wrinkle to this months-long conversation about the quarterback debate.
