The Washington Commanders are signing free agent wide receiver Noah Brown, according to multiple reports. The contract details were not initially reported, but Ben Standig indicated it will be a one-year deal.
Brown, released on Tuesday by the Houston Texans after struggling to stay fit during training camp and preseason, will fill a huge need the Commanders had a wide receiver behind top option Terry McLaurin (his teammate in college) after the team dealt former first-round pick Jahan Dotson last week, leaving the team light on experienced outside wide receiver options.
The 6-foot-2 Brown will fill that hole, sliding in ahead of Dyami Brown, Luke McCaffery and Byron Pringle.
Re-signed by Houston to a one-year deal in March, Brown was perhaps the top wide receiver option to hit the open market after teams made cuts to get to the 53 players by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline. In 10 games last season with the Texans, Brown had 567 yards on 33 receptions with two touchdowns.
Brown, 28, was a seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2017 out of Ohio State. He spent his first six years in the league with Dallas and had a breakout year in 2022, playing all 16 games (with 13 starts) and totaling 555 yards on 43 receptions with three touchdowns.
Washinton will not have to make any cuts to add the WR to the active roster after agreeing to trade defensive lineman John Ridgeway (and a 2025 seventh-round pick) to the New Orleans Saints for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
