Commanders sign three players to reserve/futures contracts
It’s reserve/futures contract time in the NFL, and the Commanders announced Wednesday they have agreed to those deals with three players: TE Lawrence Cager, OT Anim Dankwah, and RB Demetric Felton.
Cager, who was undrafted in 2020, has spent time with the Giants, Jets, and Browns over four NFL seasons, catching 19 balls for 189 yards and two touchdowns in 21 games. The 27-year-old’s best campaign came with the Giants in 2023, when he caught 13 passes for 118 yards and a score, and he was waived with an injury settlement from their practice squad in October.
Dankwah, 24, was undrafted out of Howard last spring, although he was a sixth-round pick in the CFL Draft, and he spent time in camp with the Eagles this summer. The Ghana native did not start playing football until his junior year of high school, but blossomed into a three-time All-MEAC selection and a two-time HBCU All-American with the Bison.
Felton, 26, was a sixth-round pick of the Browns in 2021 and played 24 games over two seasons in Cleveland, notching 28 touches for 209 yards from scrimmage with two touchdowns. The Browns released him at the end of training camp in 2023 and he has bounced around over the last two years, spending time in the UFL as well as on the practice squads of the Bengals and Bears.
The reserve/futures deals give the Commanders their rights to be part of the 90-man offseason and camp rosters, but they cannot be activated during the team’s playoff run.
