Commanders TE Ben Sinnott talks his first career touchdown with Kevin Sheehan

Ben Sinnott, Washington’s fourth-round pick this year, was held without a reception over his first six games and half of the seventh to stat his NFL career. That came to an end with the Commanders' tight end caught a three-yard pass from Marcus Mariota early in the third quarter and ended up with his first career touchdown in the process.

“It feels amazing,” Sinnott told Team 980's Kevin Sheehan. "It's been definitely a journey, so just to get that first one, and be able to be out there with my guys celebrating, it meant everything. It was super cool.

"Even getting a catch, man, and it to being a touchdown for my first one ever, it was a surreal feeling. And something I've definetly been dreaming about."

On the play, 2nd-and-goal from the Carolina three, Sinnott came in motion running to the right side as Mariota ran a play-action fake to Brian Robinson Jr. before finding the open tight end in the flat.

Sinnott said he was the only option on that play-call so he knew the ball was coming to him.

"That was the only one, man," he said about the quarterback's read. "No matter what he was forced to throw it, so I was lucky to be there and catch it when my opportunity came."

Sinnott had not checked his phone to see how many congratulatory texts had come in other than seeing that "it was a lot" and that "it was pretty blowing up."

After Jayden Daniels exited, Sinnott said the game plan didn't change with Mariota in – with the offense having "confidence" in the backup and the plan focused on running the ball with authority against Carolina.

And it was Mariota who went to the sideline and told them to call the play that would be Sinnott's first touchdown. "So just having that faith in me and that trust is pretty cool, and I definitely owe him one," the quarterback said.

Chris Russell also caught up with Sinnott, hear that conversation below:
