Washington Commanders trade down in second round, take DB and TE at Nos. 50 and 53 overall
The Commanders made another interesting move with their second second-round pick, dealing the No. 40 overall pick as well as No. 78 in the third round and No. 152 in Round 5 to Philadelphia for the Nos. 50, 53, and 161 picks.
And, with those two picks in the 50s, Washington selected Michigan CB Mike Sainristil at No. 50, and Kansas State TE Ben Sinnott at No. 53 (the latter also announced by Darrell Green).
Sainristil was the No. 6 corner on PFF’s Big Board with an 81.4 rating (69th among 852 FBS CBs), and that outlet said ‘he brings the skill set and mentality of a starting slot cornerback, with safety and special teams versatility to boot,’ as he played significant snaps outside, in the slot, and in the box.
His family fled Haiti when he was a child and he started as a receiver, playing his first three seasons in Ann Arbor at that spot before moving to DB in 2022 and earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference at CB.
He moved up to Second Team All-Big Ten in 2023, as he tied for third in the FBS with six interceptions (returning two for TDs) and had 44 tackles (4 TFL), one sack, six pass-breakups and two forced fumbles in 15 games, and he allowed just 29 catches for 412 yards and four TD in 372 coverage snaps.
Sinnott was one of the most decorated tight ends in Wildcats history, despite playing just 38 games over three seasons. His 82 receptions for 1,138 yards were third and fourth mong TE in school history, and his 10 TD tied for first. He was also a 2023 All-Big 12 First Team Selection and Academic All-Conference as well.
He is, as was said on the ESPN broadcast, ‘a Dan Quinn player,’ as he can line up in the backfield, on the line of scrimmage, and at receiver, and his 82.0 PFF rating was sixth out of 469 FBS tight ends.
By swapping No. 78 and 152 and 161, the Commanders now have two third-rounders at Nos. 67 and 100, and three picks on Day 3: fifth-rounders at 139 and 161, and no. 222 overall in Round 7.
