Commanders head coach Dan Quinn updated the media on some of the players who did not make the trip to Foxborough for the team’s joint practice with the Patriots, and Quinn’s tone did not seem like one of real concern for any of the absences.
In particular, Quinn made it clear that he wasn’t worried about backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, although he will miss the team’s preseason opener against the Patriots on Friday due to a lower leg strain.
“The concern level is low,” Quinn said. “I’m anticipating coming into next week to see where he’s at. I think we’re 7-10 days, somewhere in that spot. Concern level is low.
“Just a lower leg strain...this was one to say ‘Let’s make sure we’re not dealing with it back and forth.’”
Jayden Daniels will also be held out of the preseason opener.
Noah Brown, who was injured in minicamp back in June after battling other injuries the past couple seasons, also did not make the trip, though Quinn again preached caution over concern when it came to his wide receiver, who could see a bigger role in the offense if the Terry McLaurin situation isn’t resolved.
“Coming back over the summer from the knee, just making sure we didn’t miss one step,” Quinn said. “We almost reset it just to make sure he doesn’t miss one part of it. He’s champing at the bit to go. In this instance, early August, we’re trying to really extend this ramp-up. The strength, the movements...but he’s close, for sure.”
