There are plenty of times for things to change with the NFL combine and Pro Day's to come but there are now just two months, five days separating us and the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
And the quarterback conversation for the Washington Commanders and what they will do with the No. 2 overall pick is something the trio of Josh Harris, Adam Peters, and Dan Quinn simply have to nail.
To talk about the 2024 NFL Draft, Kevin Sheehan and Field Yates get into the QBs at the top of the list and what the Commanders do in Round 1.
But before getting to Washington, the conversation hits on what the Chicago Bears will do at No. 1 starting with current quarterback Justin Fields. Yates believes that by the time of the draft, Fields will be traded by Chicago because "after three seasons if you're having the conversation about whether the guy is or isn't a long-term option at quarterback, generally speaking, or profiles as a player who is not a long-term option at quarterback" then you have your answer.
Yates believes the Bears would be smart to take Caleb Williams with the first overall pick and that Fields could latch on as an upgrade at starter for several franchises, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons.
When it comes to Williams, Yates believes he doesn't see the USC QB falling past the No. 1 overall pick, is the overwhelming favorite to go there, and deserves to be the top pick.
Is it possible for Washington to trade up to that No. 1 spot? Well, it seems unlikely ("an incredibly low chance") and the cost would be rather spectacular, especially as it looks like the Bears will deal Fields.
Who do the Commanders select? Yates like LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, but he doesn't believe that it would be a massive error if the Commanders' brain trust likes UNC's Drake Maye more.
