Field Yates discusses Commanders' pick in latest mock draft with Craig Hoffman

The 2024 NFL Draft is now 69 days away. The Washington Commanders – baring a monster trade with the Chicago Bears – are set to have the second-overall selection. The first one of the Josh Harris - Adam Peters - Dan Quinn era in Ashburn. Regardless of who is selected, this will be a direction-defining moment for the franchise. No pressure, but a lot is riding on this one.

ESPN's Field Yates released his first mock draft of the mock draft season this week and the prognosticator was kind enough to join the Hoffman Show to talk to Craig Hoffman about why he sees the Commanders selecting the Heisman Tropy-winning quarterback out of LSU Jayden Daniels at No. 2.

Yates and Hoffman get into why Daniels' draft stock has surpassed UNC quarterback Drake Maye, who was previously seen as the second-best passing prospect in the 2024 draft behind USC's Caleb Williams, who Yates has going No. 1 to the Bears.

"I think people need to remind themselves that a lot changes over the course of one college football season," Yates told Hoffman about the Tigers QB leapfrogging the Tar Heel, adding that this is not just a two-man race anymore between Maye and Williams after Daniels "had an unbelievable season as a dual-threat quarterback."
