Paul Gallant has been on-air in Houston sports radio for close to a decade, so he’s seen the entire Laremy Tunsil era with the Texans – and when he joined fellow ‘Cuse alum Craig Hoffman on Tuesday to discuss the deal sending Tunsil to the Commanders, he could understand why the move was made from the Houston side.
“This is tricky, because last year, the Texans’ offensive line was maybe the worst in the league, and Tunsil, who many will tell you is one of the best tackles in the league, was a penalty machine,” Gallant said. “He drove a lot of people nuts, and when you’re the highest paid part of the worst unit on the team, there’s a lot of people who are happy he’s gone.”
That said, though, after sleeping on it, he, like many, agreed it was a steal for Washington, and agrees with Craig’s perspective that it was the right kind of risk for the Commanders to make.
“Tunsil was pretty solid last year, especially in pass protection, but there are some things that make you wonder how much of a leader he is,” Gallant said. “He’s not exactly the meanest tackle who will try to tear someone’s head off, but this is definitely a good move for the Commanders.”
