After the Washington Commanders' 35-33 win over the Denver Broncos to get their first 2-0 start to the season under head coach Ron Rivera, Team 980's Craig Hoffman and Hoffman Show producer Anthony Haynie each got to pick their three stars of the game to form the Commanders Pick-6 top players from the Burgundy & Gold's comeback win in the Mile High City.
But the twist was, Haynie and Hoffman had to pick three different players so they did it draft style and with the first selection, the producer took what he thought was the obvious pick: quarterback Sam Howell after his 299-yard, two-touchdown performance in his first career road win.
Haynie pointed to the four sacks, holding onto the ball a beat too long and a few passes deflected at the line of scrimmage, but there are signs that Howell is capable of becoming a franchise QB after he led a comeback from 21-3 down in the first half and he was instrumental in that win.
With his first pick, the host of the Hoffman Show took Daron Payne because of the "way this dude just decided 'bleep this, I am going to get this offense off the field right now' and let our offense, which is cooking, see if they can continue that first half momentum on that first [Denver] drive of the second half is something I haven't seen many players do ever."
For single-handedly destroying that drive and playing a complete game, Hoffman selected the defensive tackle "who is playing at an All-Pro level right now" as his top performer.
Plus, Hoffman gives his reaction to Rivera's comments on Chase Young, Howell and long snapper Cameron Cheeseman. Listen to the full segment on the audio player above for that and the full list of the Pick-6, which, of course, includes offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
