Jayden Daniels to undergo more tests but reportedly 'fine' after leaving Sunday's game with apparent rib issue

An early scare turned into a sigh of relief for Commanders fans: Jayden Daniels is ‘fine’ after leaving Sunday’s 40-7 win over the Panthers in the first quarter with an apparent rib injury.

The one who broke the news? His mom.

Daniels took an awkward hit on the first offensive play from scrimmage, a 46-yard zone read run around right end, and was seen grimacing as he handed off to Austin Ekeler on the next play.

The No. 2 overall pick stayed in for the remainder of the drive, which saw three handoffs, two more Daniels carries, two direct snaps to Brian Robinson, and two completed three-yard passes, which led to a field goal – but his day was done after that, and he was taken to the locker room for X-Rays shortly after that drive.

He was ruled out, and coach Dan Quinn said after the game Daniels will go through more tests Monday, but his mom spilled the beans and he came back out to the field, in warmup clothes, just after the third quarter started to a raucous ovation.

Daniels finished with three rushes for 50 yards and 2-for-2 passing for six yards, and Marcus Mariota, who replaced him, was 18-of-23 for 205 yards and two TD and added 11 carries for 34 yards.

It was, truly, a day where the offense was almost as balanced as you can get, as they piled up 214 total yards on the ground compared to 211 through the air between Daniels and Mariota, with two rushing and two receiving TDs.
