Culture is a big tenet of the foundation the Commanders are building under Adam Peters and Dan Quinn, and they often talk about finding “Commanders” as much as talented players.
Jonathan Jones came from New England, where culture was just as important in the Belichick era, and he explained to Craig Hoffman during OTAs this week how he watched last year in DC as an outsider and knew this was a place he could fit in.
And when it comes to culture and trust, no one knows that more, at least on the defensive side of the ball, than the defensive backs left out on an island.
“So much in the back end, it's all about trust - trusting each other, trusting the communication is going to be made, and you build that in the meeting rooms and when you're away from here, and then that carries over on the field,” Jones said. “So it starts with trust, and Dan (Quinn) and Joe (Whitt) simplify that communication. Coach always harps on getting the message across in the least amount of words possible, and you can see that they're intentional about making sure that communication is right and everybody's on the same page.”
