Josh Harris tells Chris Russell what Commanders are built on: 'Culture, talent, people'
Chris Russell got a Team 980 semi-exclusive on Saturday after the Commanders’ win, as he and our good friend Ben Standig were the ONLY media who got to talk to owner Josh Harris in Detroit!
Harris was with his family and friends and Rooster and Ben saw him and simply asked for a chat…and you’ll never know if you don’t ask! What you didn’t have to ask, though, is how jubilant Harris was after the win, and how much he loves the culture this organization has built.
“I’m so elated. I’m so happy for the DMV – I can't imagine what's going on there – and I'm so happy for these guys. Just listen to the sounds of the locker room., I couldn’t leave,” Harris said. “When DQ and Adam came, we knew we had a great (culture), and we went through the draft and free agency and ended up with this group of guys, and it started to build. What did we say: culture, talent, and people. When you have the right people…what's in that locker room is different.”
Harris is a lifelong Washington football fan, and if you had asked him 45 years ago, just before the Redskins’ renaissance in the 1980s, if he could ever see himself in this spot…
“I’d be out! I’d have waited it out,” Harris laughed. “This has been a long time coming for the DMV, and I'm so happy to be part of it. I'm so happy to be part of it for these guys; they earned it, and let’s go! One game from the Super Bowl, and you can’t put it in perspective. You can’t really put it into perspective that we would win four games last year and be in the NFC Championship – but Jayden’s a special guy.”
And he had just one last message for those DMV faithful who have waited a long time:
“Let’s go – we’re a team of destiny. Let’s make it happen! Bask in this, so let’s all celebrate together.”
