Josh Harris: Commanders name here to stay, but team will continue to embrace the past

Sorry, Commanders fans, but if you’re not a fan of the name, it’s here to stay.

During team owner Josh Harris’ press conference on Monday, he was specifically asked, ‘is it safe to say the Commanders’ name is here to stay?’ by the AP’s Steve Whyno, and this was his response:

"Yes," he said. "And we're actually, I think it's now being embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff. And so, we're going with that."

That said, though, earlier in the press conference, Harris indicated that the franchise won't eschew the past completely.

"In this building the name Commanders means something," he said. "It's about players who love football, are great at football, hit hard, are mentally tough, great teammates. It's really meaningful that the name is growing in meaning.

"But as far as rebranding and bringing our past, which obviously I grew up with and all of the Super Bowl championships and our future together, you're going to see us head back towards honoring our past and bringing it together with our future."

Harris and the new ownership group have already made great inroads with alumni, and have honored the creators of the former Redskins logo, and it appears as if the new culture is going to continue remembering the good old days - perhaps including in uniforms, a topic which has been discussed as possibly getting an update soon.
