JP Finlay: Commanders' response to D.C. AG was 'embarrassing' and 'pathetic'

The Washington Commanders have managed to stoop to an even new low, in using the shooting of rookie running back Brian Robinson to deflect from an investigation by the D.C. Attorney General, the findings of which will be announced Thursday afternoon.

D.C. AG Karl Racine announced a press conference to come on Thursday at 1 p.m. (which you can listen to live on 106.7 The Fan). During that presser, Racine plans to make a "major announcement" about the franchise.

In response to that announcement, the Commanders released a statement stating that Racine's office is focusing on its investigation into the team in lieu of combatting "out-of-control violence" in D.C. while referencing the shooting of Commanders rookie Brian Robinson "in broad daylight."

Shortly thereafter, Robinson's agent responded that the organization had previously handled his client's shooting with "so much care, sincerity and class," but called out whoever "whoever is hiding behind this statement."

JP Finlay began Thursday's broadcast of 106.7 The Fan's 'BMitch & Finlay' with a vitriolic rant, calling the team's response to Racine "embarrassing" and "pathetic."

"What happened las night is embarrassing for the organization," Finlay began. "This statement is embarrassing."

"It's asinine," Brian Mitchell replied. "It's stupid."

"It's pathetic. It's pathetic," Finlay fumed. "Because this is purely political."

"What they're doing here is so — I'm gonna really try hard not to curse right now — but what they're doing here is so bleeping slimy," Finlay continued. "It is straight political hackery. This is a city where we know the political nonsense that happens. All they're trying to do here is deflect and escalate."

"That's what every Senate campaign, every presidential campaign, every loser that runs for Congress that doesn't have a platform and just tries to attack other people's B.S., that's what they're doing here," he said. "And it's a goddamned embarrassment! You've got a 23-year-old kid, a rookie in this league — a rookie! — he doesn't know the business involved here. He doesn't know the billions of dollars. He's a third-round rookie! And you're dragging him into this bull?! You're dragging a kid into this?! For political points?! You're pathetic!"

"Because they don't give a damn about what they're doing," Mitchell said. "Basically what they did, there was a drive-by shooting and they picked up a kid and put him in front of them. That's what they just did. They're trying to use this young man as a shield, which is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen in my life."

"And the whole thing about it is now you start trying to figure out who sent it out," Mitchell continued. "Nobody wants to take ownership of it. And you are wondering now why all of a sudden we hear 'I'm trying to sell.' Why all of a sudden now we're starting to see all these letters and these offers to pay people off.

"Why? Because the walls are starting to close in. And listen, there are a lot of people over there, I'm sure you've got great credentials, be careful. Because you get caught up in this B.S., your credentials will go down and your possibility of getting employment elsewhere will be slim."
