The Junkies disagree with Joe Theismann's thoughts on Jayden Daniels not playing in preseason

Joe Theismann made waves on Thursday night when he appeared on The Hoffman Show on the Team 980, expounding for a few minutes on why he thinks Jayden Daniels should NOT play in the preseason.

And what’s maybe funny is that the Junkies think it’s a reverse ‘old man yelling at cloud’ of sorts.

“This kind of goes along my lines of what we were talking about with Paul Skenes: more wussification,” JP said. “Now, preseason doesn't matter, and I always kind of like college football that there's no preseason, other than some teams start off with just guaranteed winners, but I think that it's good to see some of these guys find a rhythm. I don't think it's important for a vet necessarily who has been with the team for a while to get reps in preseason, because they've been doing it for a while if you've been with the team for years, but a young guy who's got no NFL reps? I'm sorry, I want to see him in the preseason. You don’t need to see 10 quarters in three games, but I’d like to see a few quarters.”

“I'm okay with limiting him in the preseason, but as far as just completely bubble wrapping him and not playing him at all until the opener in Tampa, I need to see him take at least a few series with who are going to be the starters,” Cakes replied. “If you want to take him out after a series or two, so be it, but I don’t think you can simulate real game action in training camp and just hope it translates to Week 1.”

Two for three, and yep, Bish Bucks makes it a clean sweep.

“If it's a 10-year vet and he's been through the preseason a bunch of times, that's one thing, but I think rookies have to see live action against defenses they’ve never seen before,” Bish said. “I don't know where Theismann stands on the veterans playing preseason, and I agree with you that if you're gonna have your backups in for the second quarter, then you take him out. But I think he's gotta face live action, and I would think Commanders fans would like to see him in preseason.”

“Absolutely, and look, if you put him out there for the first series and it just a fire drill and it's not going well, and the offensive line is just letting in pressure after pressure and he's under complete duress, then maybe if you're Dan Quinn, you huddle with Kliff and the offensive line coach and you try to figure out what you do from there,” Cakes replied, “but I just can't agree with Joe here, where you just run him through the paces during the practices and scrimmages, but during the preseason games, he's not gonna get any sort of exposure to that? I feel like that’s risky.”
