It’s another Feinstein Friday for the Sports Junkies, and this week, John jumped on to talk about how the new Commanders ownership is trying to connect with the fans…and doing it with aplomb!
“What I make of this is that these guys are no dummies,” Feinstein said. “They know the fans in this town have been alienated for years by previous ownership. They also know more than we do what the actual attendance figures actually were the last couple years – how many were season tickets, full-price tickets, bought by opposing team fans, etc. – and they know they’re bad. There’s a lot of work to do on the field, but a lot to do off the field, too, and my guess is that most people who make this kind of money aren’t dummies.”
As opposed to “the previous ownership,” who was aloof even when trying to be nice at the start?
“If you go back, there were moments he tried to ingratiate himself with the media, but I’d bet you a million dollars that if you called the media today, they’d still remember the ground rules for those interviews,” Feinstein said. “He called me once to say let’s go to lunch and smoke the peace pipe, and that’s when he asked me if I was criticizing him because he gave money to Children’s Hospital…that’s as weird as it gets.”
Feinstein Friday also had some chat on how technology may be hurting the PGA Tour, Joe Burrow's calf injury and his contract future, and MLB's trade deadline chaos – take a listen above!
