Washington Commanders

Have the Junkies' expectations, opinions, or optimism on the Commanders changed at all this preseason?

Everyone knew Jayden Daniels was going to be named the starter, even if it didn’t happen until midday on Monday, but looking at his performance in Saturday’s preseason game – 10-for-12 for 78 yards – optimism was still riding high that he is the right man for the job.

But after two weeks of seeing Jayden and the rest of the team in preseason, have your expectations, opinions, or level of optimism for this team changed at all?

“Before the preseason started, we each had predictions of how the team would fare; I had them going 8-9 or 7-10, and I don't know that it's changed,” JP said. “I've been impressed with Jayden, but I do think the questions remain at wide receiver, they definitely have a huge question mark at kicker that could end up costing them a game or two in the regular season, and then I don't know if the defense is going to be able to get to the opposing quarterbacks.”

JP said ‘you gotta like what you've seen from Jayden Daniels,’ pointing out cynics could look at his short passes on the preseason, and yeah, EB, who had them at 9-8 but wanted to go 10-7, says that’s short-sighted.

“He had good ball placement., and I think he's just managed everything very, very well,” EB said. “You'd like to have seen maybe a few more scores, some more points, but by and large, I think our quarterback situation, I feel great about, as good as you could feel at this point. Running back situation, Brian Robinson has impressed me and I gotta give him a hat tip because I've been a little underwhelmed with him, but this preseason looks great – but Ekeler is the unknown, the X-factor, because if he's the Ekeler of a couple of years ago, you're talking about a dynamic player. The receivers, even though there hasn't been a clear-cut No. 2 guy jump out at you, I think they have plenty of guys there. Tight end is good, the only question is the O-line, but Jayden’s gonna help that by getting rid of the ball quickly. This may sound crazy because we’re 0-2 and didn’t really score a lot of points, but I think the offense will be okay.”

So what do you say, Bish?

“I haven’t changed, I got them about seven wins; I think the first month and a half will be telling with a new roster and a rookie QB,” Bish said. “If they come out 3-3, that’s good, but the offensive line, secondary, and kicker are all concerns, and after Terry McLaurin, receiver is just a bunch of guys.”
