Junkies react to JJ McCarthy's QB coach stumping for McCarthy to the Commanders
It seems like Drake Maye vs. Jayden Daniels is the choice, and we still have three weeks to speculate…but a new entry has entered the chat: J.J. McCarthy’s QB coach wants him to be a Commander?
Apparently, even as the Junks still aren’t 100% sure the Commanders are 100% sure.
“I think anyone with a brain knows that Adam Peters hasn't told anybody outside of those four walls who they're planning on selecting,” Cakes said. “I was on with Scott Abraham (Tuesday) and I think it's gonna air Thursday, and he asked me, do you think that the brain trust has settled on somebody yet? And I said they probably have their leans, but they've got three weeks to still make a decision. I think there's still people arguing in that room, stumping for their guy. I don't think that they're at a consensus yet as to who they're gonna pick.”
“It would be interesting to see how many guys are pro-Daniels, how many are pro-Maye, how many are pro JJ, right?” Bish replied. “I mean, it really only takes two guys, Quinn and Peters, but I would love to know how many of those coaches, like Kingsbury, are on the same page as those other guys,
“I would say, they're probably 90% decided and they were probably 90% decided before the pro day, and what it kind of comes down to the last 10% is almost the interpersonal relationship,” JP chimed in. “They’ll get that in the next couple of weeks, when they actually bring him to the park.”
“Imagine if you love a kid's skill set, but there's just something about him that rubs you the wrong way, personality-wise?” was EB’s take.
So yeah, on McCarthy: Kevin Sheehan had Greg Holcomb, JJ’s personal quarterback coach, on yesterday, and in a clip the Junks played, Holcomb said Washington was one of the teams JJ had a positive experience with, and that ‘I would love to see him there, and at No. 2, I think everybody would be really happy.”
Everybody?
“If McCarthy goes at number two, he is the least sexy pick for the fan base here in Washington,” Cakes said. “I think the fan base overall is gonna be like, we could have had Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels and we’re picking McCarthy? I don't think the fan base is going to be into it.”
“Well, of course his quarterback coach is gonna hype him up,” Bish said.
And that led to a different idea from EB:
“Somebody put out something on social media and it made me think: who has been his biggest advocate? Coach Harbaugh, right?” EB added. “Harbaugh is picking fifth, so if Harbaugh can get buzz on McCarthy to go in the top four or at least get a team to trade up to get him, that leaves Harrison at five for him, which is exactly what they would love to have. The idea is promote JJ, make the demand so great that four quarterbacks go one through four and someone moves up to get him.”
“I think that's probably exactly why he's doing it, but he kind of just depends on what New England's gonna do at three,” Bish replied.
